Qatar Airways has signed a significant codeshare agreement with American Airlines in a move that will increase commercial cooperation, bolster connectivity and create hundreds of new travel options for millions of customers.
The agreement between ITMS’s current client Qatar Airways and the agency’s former client American Airlines, will establish a partnership at a global level between two of the world’s most connected airlines, linking some of the largest airport hubs in the US to Hamad International Airport in Doha.
ITMS, a stalwart in the aviation industry, has been leading Qatar Airways’ media and public relations efforts in Germany since 2013. The agency worked in a similar capacity for US Airways up until the carrier merged with American Airlines to form one of the largest airlines in the world in 2015.
A multiple award-winning airline, Qatar Airways was named ‘World’s Best Airline’ by the 2019 World Airline Awards, managed by the international air transport rating organization Skytrax. It was also named ‘Best Airline in the Middle East’, ‘World’s Best Business Class’, and ‘Best Business Class Seat’, in recognition of its ground-breaking Business Class experience, Qsuite. It is the only airline to have been awarded the coveted “Skytrax Airline of the Year” title, which is recognized as the pinnacle of excellence in the airline industry, five times.
Since 2013, American Airlines has invested more than $28 billion in its product and people and now flies the youngest fleet among U.S. network carriers, equipped with industry-leading high-speed Wi-Fi, lie-flat seats, and more inflight entertainment and access to power.
The agreement between the two oneworld alliance members is subject to government approval. The carriers will submit paperwork to the U.S. Department of Transportation this week and hope to commence codesharing by the end of March.
