Every summer, the American Chamber of Commerce in Germany, AmCham Germany, hosts a program that enables American students to participate in internships with U.S. companies doing business in Germany as well as German businesses that often have strong roots in the United States.
The goal of the association is to foster business relations, unrestricted trade and investment between the two nations. Application to the internship opportunity is limited to American citizens enrolled in one of the 14 institutions that partner with AmCham Germany. Qualified, degree-seeking students must also have intermediate knowledge of the German language, have completed at least four semesters in one field of study, and be willing to commit to a three-month internship in Germany.
ITMS Marketing is one of approximately 20 companies, varying from year to year, that participate in AmCham Germany’s internship program. Between the months of February and April, one candidate is selected to work in the agency’s Bad Nauheim office. The writing skills of the intern are often of paramount importance, as ITMS must communicate with clients proficiently in both English and German.
The position gives interns an opportunity to learn about working with clients to produce high quality public relations and marketing campaigns that promote businesses and entice consumers. Through hands-on experience, interns are able to work as part of the ITMS team to experience the field of marketing communications and build on their communication skills in both English and German.
“It’s an excellent opportunity to gain real-world experience while sharpening language skills,” said Whitney Harris, the 2015 AmCham intern at ITMS. “Obtaining internships in foreign countries can often be difficult, but AmCham helps to make the process much easier. I look forward to learning about international marketing and public relations practices during my time at ITMS.”
